ProGARM is the only UK manufacturer focused solely on Arc Flash and Flame Resistant garments. We build kit for teams in Utilities, Rail, Industrial Electrical, Petrochemical, Electric Vehicles, Wind Power, and Construction, sectors where the risk is part of the job.
FOUNDED WITH A MISSION
ProGARM started as part of a wider workwear business in 2005. By 2013, we’d sold that off entirely to focus on one thing: Arc Flash and Flame Resistant clothing that workers would actually want to wear, not just be told to. Early on, that meant building fabrics that met the standards without the stiffness or discomfort that usually came with them.
Today we manufacture from the UK, supply to more than 30 countries, and work with safety teams across Utilities, Rail, Industrial Electrical, Petrochemical, Electric Vehicles, Wind Power, and Construction. Every garment still has to do the same job it always did: perform when it actually matters.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
They're the two protection classes under the Box Test (IEC 61482-1-2). APC1 (Class 1) is tested at 4kA, typically rating garments around 4 to 8 cal/cm². APC2 (Class 2) is tested at a higher 7kA, rating up to around 30 cal/cm². Simply put, APC2 covers higher-risk environments where a bigger fault current is possible.
The Box Test gives you a class, APC1 or APC2, based on a fixed test at 4kA or 7kA. The Open Arc Test works differently: it measures ATPV or ELIM directly, giving you a specific cal/cm² figure for that garment, rather than a class. In short, Box Test tells you which category a garment passed. Open Arc tells you the exact incident energy it can handle.
That comes down to an Arc Flash risk assessment, a site-specific calculation of the incident energy at each point of risk. It's not something to guess at. We can support with PPE audits and risk assessments to help you get the right category and rating for the actual job, not just a general estimate.

Yes – selected ProGARM Arc Flash PPE garments are certified to meet RIS-3279-TOM, making them suitable for use in UK rail environments where this standard is specified. It's important to note that not every ProGARM garment is RIS-compliant—typically it's the Hi-Vis Orange railway range that's specifically designed for trackside use.
